*Note: For the four Sundays after Jesus’ Baptism, we invite the children to help “build” a particular story from Scripture.  These stories help reveal who Jesus is, and we call them “Epiphanies.”

  • Go around the circle and share your name. After saying your name, choose someone to change places with in the circle. (Everyone responds “Good Morning, ______ !”)

  • Written on a poster board so the kids can read (or sing) along.

I want to walk as a child of the light. I want to follow Jesus.

God set the stars to give light to the world. The star of my life is Jesus.

In him there is no darkness at all. The night and the day are both alike. The Lamb is the light of the city of God.

Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.(Hymnal 1982 pg. 490)

(Ask for individual prayers of concern or thanksgiving/celebration)

We offer these prayers through Jesus, the light of the world. Amen

  • Today we are going to work together to build something— a story about Jesus!  We will each work on a different part or element of the story.  At the end of our time, we will gather to read the story and reflect on what it reveals to us about Jesus. Have children help decide which part of the story they will build.

  • Have each child choose one activity.

    1. Prepare jugs and jars. Fill 3 (or more) plastic jugs with water in the bathroom or

kitchen (with adult supervision). Have on hand a few containers or pitchers

representing “Large Stong Jars.” They should have wide openings so that children

can pour water into them while telling the story. The children can put red or purple

koolaid drops in the bottom of the jars. http://easybreezysundayschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/jesus-turns-water-into-wine.html?m=1

    2. Make Party Hats for the wedding (There are many ideas, but here is one way:

    3. Decorate and set up for a party: Have children decorate with streamers for the party or set out a simple snack like goldfish.

    4. Other ideas for related activities:

  • “Jesus Turns Water Into Wine” pg. 72 Children of God Storybook Bible. As you read the story, have children act out the roles of Jesus, Mary, servants and the host and bridegroom. They can use the props they created.

If time permits, here are some wondering questions:

I wonder why Mary wanted Jesus to help the host of the wedding party?

I wonder what the wine looked like? Smelled like? Tasted like?

I wonder how the host felt when he tasted the wine Jesus made?

  • Sing “Go Now in Peace
